Russia’s Sports Minister Vitaly Mutko has marked 200 days until the start of the 2013 Universiade in Kazan next year by forecasting that the upcoming test events will be key in helping the city put the finishing touches on the event. The Universiade is the biggest competition in the world for university athletes and Kazan 2013 will take place from July 6 until 17.

Сhairman of the Accounts Chamber of Russia, Sergey Stepashin highly praised the ongoing preparations for the World University Games in Kazan. He announced this flattering assessment during the meeting with journalists that took place at the end of the joint meeting of the Accounts Chambers of Russia and Tatarstan held on December 13 in Kazan and dedicated to the results of the audit of the state budget expenditures allocated to organise, prepare and deliver the Kazan 2013 Summer Universiade.

Rustam Minnikhanov attended a meeting of the Universiade organising committee in Moscow. People representing every part of Russia needed to be guests at World Summer Universiade in Kazan, first deputy prime minister of Russia, Igor Shuvalov, said at a meeting held by the Universiade organising committee in Moscow. Other attendees were governor of Tatarstan, Rustam Minnikhanov, Russian communications minister, Nikolai Nikiforov, Russian sport minister, Vitaly Mutko, and others.

Two cyclists from Kazan - Pavel Grachev and Alen Khairullin - continue their world cycling tour dedicated to the 27th Summer Universiade and undertaken to pay tribute to Onisim Pankratov, the first bicycle tourist in the world. It's already their second month on the road and the travellers have passed the 4,000km mark as they cycled through Russia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Czech Republic, Austria.

The congress’ plenary session opened in the Tatar Jalil Opera and Ballet Theatre. One hundred and forty five journalists from Russia and other countries have come to Kazan, to report the work of the fifth World Congress of Tatars, held in the Tatar Jalil Opera and Ballet Theatre. Over 100 journalists represent Tatarstan, while 45 have come from Russian regions and near and far abroad countries.

Ak Bars Kazan edged out Atlant Moscow Region 3-2 on the road Sunday and clinched first place in the KHL’s Eastern Conference.

Atlant had been on a three-game winning run that started with a shock 5-2 defeat of the Western Conference leader Dynamo Moscow but the defeat keeps them just outside the the playoff zone in ninth.
