The final stage of the GTO Complex Summer Festival among students of educational establishments takes place at the Artek International Children’s Centre (Gurzuf, Republic of Crimea) on October 18-November 7. The event is held under auspices of the Ministry of Sport of the Russian Federation and Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation.
This year over 150,000 students from 85 regions of Russia enrolled to compete for the right to become part of their regions’ representative teams.
The final stage will see 860 holders of GTO’s gold pins to compete for trophies in a number of events. Each representative team has 8 members: 2 boys and girls aged 11-12, 2 young men and women aged 13-15. These age groups coincide with the 3rd and 4th age groups of the GTO Complex.
The students will not only only compete in sports events but also take part in the extensive educational programme that will enable them to develop additional knowledge and skills. The students will learn about the tools of promoting the GTO Complex that will help to encourage more students to start taking GTO tests in the future.
Apart from that, the festival participants will meet with the federal GTO ambassadors – famous Russian athletes and winners of major international competitions.
Winners and runners-up in the team event will be determined based on the points collected throughout all sports competitions and contests. The winning team will take home the perpetual trophy of the GTO Complex Summer Festival.
The official opening will take place on October 24, the closing ceremony will be held on November 6.
The pervious festivals were hosted in Belgorod (2015) and Vladimir (2016).
