Third GTO summer festival wraps up in Artek

The Closing Ceremony of the Third Summer All-Russian Physical Culture and Sports Festival "GTO" took place on 6 November in the International Children's Center Artek. The Festival was held with the support of the Ministry of Sport of the Russian Federation, the Ministry of Education and Science of Russia, and Artek.

For the first time in the history of the GTO Festival the students from all 85 regions of Russia participated in the event. 660 students aged from 11 to 15 competed in sporting, creative and  educational programmes for 3 weeks.

The sporting programme featured the GTO tests: 60m race, 1,500 (2,000) m race, air rifle shooting, power gymnastics, ball throw, lifting the body from a prone position, swimming, and straight legs standing on a bench. The individual and team results have been drawn up.

Konstanin Aidinov from the Krasnodar Krai was the best among the boys of the 3 age group (11-13 years). Anton Kozhevnikov (Rostov Oblast) was second, and David Khlystov (Tomsk Oblast) - third.

Yekaterina Shmarina from Tomsk Oblast took the first place in the 3 age group, girls. Darya Mishanina (Chuvash Republic) - second, and Bazhena Mukataeva (Tyumen Oblast) was third.

Boys, 4 age group (14-15 years), individuals: Alexander Sakhnov (Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrug — Yugra) was first, Alexander Putin (Tomsk Oblast) and Daniila Pavlov (Chuvash Republic) shared the second place.

Girls, 4 age group (14-15 years), individuals: Anastasia Molokotina (Kurgan Oblast) - first, Kristina Salikhova (Sverdlovsk Oblast) - second, and Anna Shulyak (Vladimir Oblast) was third.

The Udmurt Republic won the GTO Cup in the team competition. It was awarded by the GTO ambassador - Olympic medallist, Deputy of the State Duma of the Russian Federation, Svetlana Zhurova, and Directorate of the International Children's Center Artek, Kasprzhak Alexey.

The participants also took part in the creative workshops as a part of the educational programme. The "We are GTO Team" meeting, "GTO - one country, one team!" networking, and "GTO Creator Era" foresight game also took part. The participants had for the objective to contribute in creating a positive and attractive image of the GTO for their counterparts. The boys and girls elaborated their future CVs, Activist's Road Maps with estimated results and the mission of the GTO in the life of the young generation.

Another pleasant surprise was a "Young GTO journalist" nomination where Elisaveta Fedyunina from the Lipetsk Oblast won. She was awarded the right to publish her author's material on the website of the sporting information agency R-sport.

"I always enjoyed writing essays and stories, so I decided to try my hand in journalistics. The most important is to know how to achieve your goals. I think it means the following - do not despair and do not quit if something goes wrong," she said.

Another task during the team competitions was to represent the promoting project. The results:

"The festival united all regions. It is encouraging that Artek plays one of the major roles in the delivery of this event. Now we can talk not only about the creativity, education, and culture, but also about sports. It is great that at events like this the participants are encouraged by their counterparts, that's exactly how it should be," said Svetlana Zhurova.
