2017 results summed up at panel of the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sport of Tatarstan

The the results of activity for 2017 were summed up on 17January at the final panel of the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sport of the Republic of Tatarstan in the Volga Region State Academy of Physical Culture, Sport and Tourism. The meeting was attended by State Secretary, Russia's Deputy Sport Minister, Natalya Parshikova, Deputy Head of the Federal Agency for youth Affairs, Roman Kamaev, Prime Minister of Tatarstan, President of the Tatarstan Rugby Federation Aleksey Pesoshin, Aleksey Pesoshin, Deputy Chairman of the State Council of the Republic of Tatarstan Rimma Ratnikova, Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports of Tatarstan, panel Chairman Vladimir Leonov, Chairman of Council of municipal formations of the Republic of Tatarstan, Ekzam Gubaidullin, Chief Federal Inspector of RT, Renat Timerzyanov.

Vladimir Leonov opened the meeting. He stated that in 2017 Tatarstan was recognized once again as the leading region for a number of people involved in sport, and that more than 800 sporting events were held in the Republic, including the major All-Russian and international ones.

The FIFA Confederations Cup Russia 2017 marked the main event of the year. According to the federal and republican authorities, as well as the FIFA managers, football players and coaches, the Kazan matches were organised on the highest level. To date, preparations for the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia™ are in full swing — all services are involved, and the final preparation of the training and main field are underway.

The last year also featured the remarkable events such as Red Bull Air Race leg, Sixth International Conference of Ministers and Senior Officials Responsible for Physical Education and Sport (MINEPS VI), World Wushu Championships and other major international sporting events that were organised by the Directorate for Sports and Social Projects.

According to the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sport, a number of persons systematically engaging in physical culture and sports achieved 43,5% in the last year, which is a million and a half of citizens. With those figures Tatarstan is already ahead of the Federal Programme and is planning to involve a half of the population of the republic by 2020.

Undeniable contribution to the promotion of sport is made by the Russian National Health and Fitness Programme "GTO". Head of GTO Complex Implementation Department, Deputy Director General of the Directorate for Sports and Social Projects, Alexander Karpov, presented the results of a 3-years GTO implementation programme. It is worth noticing that more than a half million registered at the GTO portal, and today 51 municipal centres and 358 testing centres are operating in Tatarstan. Among 240,000 people engaged in the testing, 74,000 gained GTO pins.

As for 2018, Vladimir Leonov noted that this year will be an anniversary one for the sporting field in Tatarstan and Russia: On 31 May Kazan will celebrate 10 years anniversary since the Kazan bid victory to host the 27th Summer Universiade 2013 and in July the city will celebrate the 5th anniversary of the event. "We are grateful to our management and the Kazan 2013 team for the delivery of this project. The Universiade gifted us with the legacy which is hard to overestimate. I think we will hold some special events dedicated to this date," said Leonov.

The award ceremony of the Directorate for Sports and Social Projects staff also took place at the panel. Dania Shavkatovna, Deputy Head of Transport and Logistics Department was awarded with the Commendation letter from the President of the Republic of Tatarstan, Adviser to the Director General, Vladimir Mikhailov, and Head of the Services Department, Assistant to the Deputy of the State Duma of the Russian Federation, Executive Director of the Synchronised Swimming Federation in Tatastan, Aleksandra Babicheva,  were awarded with the Commendation letter from the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Tatarstan.
