Michel Salgado, former right back for Real Madrid and Spain, FIFA legend, opened the 2018 FIFA World Cup Football Park in Kazan. The 2018 FIFA World Cup park in Kazan opened in the square near the Central Stadium, the address is St. 1, Tashayak.
The iconic Colombian fan Gustavo Llanos, also known as El Cole, was also a special guest of the park. He is famous for his condor suit with wings, in which he has been accompanying the Colombian team all over the world for 25 years. Colombia will play in Kazan against Poland on 24 June.
The opening ceremony was attended by President of the International Swimming Federation (FINA), member of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Julio Maglione, First Deputy Head of the Executive Committee Damir Fattakhov, and Ambassadors of Kazan, host city of the 2018 FIFA World Cup, Rubin Kazan goalkeeper Sergey Ryzhikov and singer Elmira Kalimullina.
Visitors of the Park will have a chance to participate in different workshops, get an autograph of russian and foreign football stars, play outdoor games, enjoy rides, attractions and contests with prizes. Any guest can take a picture with the mascot of the World Cup, Zabivaka™, try his luck when attempting to score against a robot goalkeeper and play a game that combines elements of football and table tennis.
Kazan is the seventh city to welcome the Football Park. Earlier it's been to Sochi, Rostov-on-Don, Volgograd, Saransk, Samara, and Yekaterinburg.
Kazan plays host to 6 matches. Group stage will feature games of France vs Austria (16 June), IR Iran vs Spain (20 June), Poland vs Colombia (24 June), and Korea Republic vs Germany (27 June). On 30 June, the Kazan Arena will stage a match of Round of 16, and on 6 July – an encounter of Round of 8.
