Rubin Kazan in the Marbella Cup final match defeated Dinamo Kiev.
Games between Ukraine and Russia clubs have historically been captivating and unpredictable. The Thursday’s match was no exception. The teams earlier in the day agreed to hold a friendly, involving the players who at the recent training session in Spain had little practice. The two 30-minute periods failed to identity a winner, 0:0.
The teams met again in the evening. No draw was any longer anticipated, since it was the final match. Berdyev decided on a roster of Arlauskis, Kuzmin, Sharonov, Bocchetti and Ansaldi, Kislyak, Nemov, Karadeniz and Kasayev, as well as Martins and Valdez.
The teams from the starting whistle began to play offensively. A series of dangerous attacks soon resulted in Rubin making a penalty shot. The elegant kick made by Karadeniz, ending in a goal in the corner of Dinamo’s goal area, gave Rubin the lead, 1:0.
Things became even more intense after the first goal but the score until the end of the first period remained unchanged.
In the second period, Ansaldi, Kasayev and Valdez were replaced with Navas, Ryazantsev and Dadyun. Dinamo made some replacements as well, to which Berdyev responded with a fresh Nikita Bocharov and Roman Yeremenko, who the summer before defended the Dinamo’s colours.
Close to the end of the second period, in the 86th minute, when the game seemed to be drawing to a close, an inaccurate pass from a Rubin player gave the ball to Dinamo’s Brown Ideye, who stormed into the goal area and made a bull’s-eye shot into a fresh goal keeper replacement, Milevsky, 1:1.
Rubin, however, pulled themselves together and in the very last minute of additional time decided the game's outcome in their favour. A red-and-greens’ brilliant attack resulted in Roman Yeremenko score, 2:1. The final whistle came immediately after it.
Rubin – Dinamo Kiev – 2:1 (1:0).
