31 October 2012, Wednesday

London 2012 Olympics winner Alia Mustafina will perform on the Russian national artistic gymnastics team at Universiade 2013 in Kazan, Russian artistic gymnastics state coach Valentina Rodionenko has said.

“We have been tasked to assemble a strongest national team for Universiade,” V. Rodionenko said. “We have identified four athletes who will definitely perform in Kazan. Alia Mustafina will be the leader, along with Ksenia Afanasieva, Tatiana Nabieva and Kristina Gorunova. Nine gymnasts are candidates for the remaining two vacancies. Among them are girls who were at the pre-Olympic training, Yulia Inshina and Anna Dementieva”.

“We should have a good team. Viktoria Komova is still a young athlete, not yet a school graduate,” Valentina Rodionenko noted. “Boys are going to have a good team as well, those born in 1992, who have performed at the Olympics, will be included. All of them are students”.
