A project called New Year Capital has been launched in Russia. Kazan has been chosen as the first such capital, Russian Culture Ministry’s department of tourism and regional policy chief, Sergei Korneev, has said.
“The New Year there will be celebrated in a special way,” he went on to state. The holiday in Kazan will be celebrated in light of Tatar historical traditions.
A New Year Capital would annually be selected from a list of Russian cities by a board of experts, Korneev explained at a news conference themed Promoting National and Regional Brands. Innovations in Tourism, held in Moscow.
Another upcoming event related to popular traditions will be a national Pancake Week that the Krasnoyarsk Region suggests hosting in 2013.
