Boxers and boxing judges to be selected for 2013 Summer Universiade

Kazan will turn into the university boxing Mecca when one of its venues, the Table Tennis and Boxing Centre which was built especially for the 27th Summer Universiade, will open its doors for the All-Russian University Boxing Championship where student-athletes will qualify and boxing judges will get selected for the Games. The tournament will take place on February 25-March 2, 2013

Boxing athletes from 17 regions of Russia will compete in individual and team competitions. The triumph at the championship will give the winners the spot on the Russian national team for the 2013 Summer Universiade. This fact, the organisers say, will make the competition even more intense as each of the national athletes will be fighting for more than just a national victory but for a chance to compete at a major international sporting event. 

Apart from true boxing fans, who will come to watch the thrilling sports action, the competition will be attended by 70 judges, who are participants of the boxing judges seminar, one in the series of special trainings held in Kazan ahead of the Games. As we earlier reported, to ensure a high-quality preparation of judges and referees for the summer of 2013, the Kazan 2013 SU organisers will host an entire series of judging seminars. One of them -  for badminton judges - took place in January at the Tennis Academy. The organisers hold the seminars during real sports competitions to give the trainees an opportunity to master their skills both in theory and in practice. After learning latest changes in the sports rules and regulations, the judges get a chance to apply their gained skills in practice. The upcoming seminar will involve 70 judges, including 58 experts from across regions of Tatarstan. 

Judges seminars will allow to enhance the expertise of the sports personnel recruited to help stage the 2013 Summer Universiade. 

A press conference with the attendance of the seminar organisers and FISU representatives, as well as the solemn opening of the All-Russian University Boxing Championship, will take place at the Table Tennis and Boxing Centre on 22 February at 4:00pm. The championship will be open to all comers.
