The boxing judges seminar came to an end at the Table Tennis and Boxing Centre on Friday, March 1. The event which brought together 71 trainees, including 44 representatives from Tatarstan, became another important step in the preperation of athletes and coaches for the 27th Summer Universiade, said Olga Pavlova, Merited Coach of Russia, Adviser for Sports Affairs to the Director General of the Kazan 2013 Executive Directorate.
The idea to organise the seminar on the sidelines of the real sporting event - the All-Russian University Boxing Championship which started on February 27 - was not a random one. The organisers say that the seminar will enable the trainees to master their skills both in theory and in practice - they will be given a chance to judge the boxing fights. Besides, following the seminars, representatives of Tatarstan's sports federations will be able to train other judges in their home regions.
Judging seminars are essential as they allow the trainees to undergo requalification and evaluation to be competent and to know all international requirements and changes to the competition rules and regulations, especially changes to those competitions which are scheduled to be held any time soon. "All trainees have received certificates of participation. For participants from Tatarstan, the seminar was a chance to upgrade their judging categories," said Olga Pavlova. The certificates were signed by Eduard Abdulmanov, Merited Coach of Russia and FISU CT Chair for Boxing.
2,361 judges and referees, including 1,547 national ones and 814 international ones, will work during the Summer Universiade. "Another reason why the stakes are high is that we already know that the participating countries will send their first teams to the Games. All of them are very talented. The preliminary roster of our national team is known but it is subject to changes," Olga Pavlova said.
