Four mobile inspection and examination complexes to ensure effective customs clearance during Games in Kazan

30 April 2013, Tuesday

Four mobile inspection and examination complexes will be delivered in Kazan in early June to control cargoes arriving in the capital of Tatarstan during the 2013 Summer Universiade. This announcement was made by Maksim Chmora, First Deputy Head of the Customs Service of the Republic of Tatarstan, on Monday, April 29.

According to him, the sophisticated truck-mounted equipment will be sent from the following border checkpoints: Belgorod, Voronezh, Taganrog and Chelyabinsk. Without opening and unloading cargoes, it will allow scanning and getting an image of goods transported, including images of objects hidden in cargoes and substances and goods forbidden to be transferred. These complexes will significantly accelerate the customs clearance procedure and ensure an effective customs control during the Games.

The equipment will be delivered to Kazan on June 10. After that it will be tested and brought to readiness. The complexes will get fully operational on June 15.

The decision about taking the complexes to Kazan was taken by the Federal Customs Service of Russia for the purpose of ensuring security during the Summer Universiade.

At the same time Maksim Chmora stated that despite the fact that Tatarstan's Customs Service works much harder given the increased cargo turnover in the build-up to the Summer Universiade (a large number of cargoes is imported in the republic to be later used during the Games, including gas technical equipment for the Torch Relay, lighting facilities, photo and video equipment to provide the media coverage during the Summer Universiade), there will be no delays in the work of customs officers.
