Exhibition dedicated to 2013 Summer Universiade opens in Kazan Kremlin

With 54 days to go to the Summer Universiade in Kazan, the State Museum of Fine Arts of the Republic of Tatarstan an exhibition dedicated to the upcoming 27th World University Summer Games in the halls of the Khazine National Art Gallery.

The exhibition is organised through the kind offices of the State Tretyakov Gallery (Moscow), State Russian Museum (St. Petersburg), Central Museum of Physical Culture and Sports (Moscow), that provided the exhibits from their collections. It will feature the works by such outstanding painters, graphic artists, sculptors of the 20th century as Aleksandr Samokhvalov, Aleksandr Deineka, Ivan Shadr, Aleksandr Radchenko and many others, who were inspired by the theme of sports in their artistic endeavour. The exhibition also offers its viewers the excitement of discovering pieces of applied art such as cups, medals and articles with the logo of previous Olympic Games and world championships. But the centrepiece of the event is the Olympic bear, the legendary mascot of the 1980 Summer Olympic Games in Moscow. 

Apart from pieces of art by Russian painters, the exhibition will represent paintings by Tatarstan's artists who depicted sports in the context of Sabantuy, the favourite national holiday in our republic. Plus, museum-goers will also be treated to artistic photos taken by such famous photographers as G.Kozlov, A.Shlykov, I. Chirkov, F. Ziatdinov, as well as young aspiring  photojournalists during competitions held ahead of the Summer Universiade in Kazan. 

The exhibition that will present up to 190 works of sport-focused art will run until July 21, 2013.
