Universiade Museum gets new exhibits

7 June 2013, Friday

The Universiade Museum – a unique project of the FISU International Education Centre (FISU IEC) and the Kazan 2013 Executive Directorate, that is going to become part of the 27th Summer Universiade Legacy – is rapidly expanding its collection. The National University Sports Federations, Kazan 2013 Ambassadors and staff of the Executive Directorate have been contributing to the creation of the museum.

The heads and representatives of the delegations of the countries participating in the Games have already transferred to the Universiade Museum some commemorative medals, uniforms and mascots of the previous Games. The Executive Directorate staff who have done internship at previous Summer and Winter Universiades also make contributions to the museum's exhibition and encourage others to do the same. It is thanks to them that the museum's first exhibition will introduce visitors to the stamps, booklets of the Games in Serbia and China, photo books from their previous internships, the paraphernalia of the bidding campaigns and other memorable exhibits. Some of these items will be displayed only during the first exhibition, therefore the opportunity to see them can be described as really unique.

The Universiade Museum is getting various exhibits. FISU President Claude-Louis Gallien has given to the museum a valuable gift – a genuine Torch of the 2011 Summer Universiade in Shenzhen. Honorary Treasurer of the Melbourne University Sports Association Alfred Lazer handed a tie from Australia – part of the official gear of the Summer Universiade 1973 in Moscow. The Kazan 2013 Ambassador Alexander Sladkovsky presented to the museum his conducting baton and a booklet about the Tatarstan National Symphony Orchestra with his signature, whilst Olympic champion, Tatarstan's first female athlete Nailya Gilyazova, who became a fencing medallist at the Summer Universiade in Mexico, gave to the museum her own foil which helped her to make her way to victories as early as in the 1980s. Tatarstan's famous swimmer Yana Martynova handed to the museum her swimwear and goggles, whilst the Daegu 2003 Summer Universiade medallist Ramil Artikulov added to the museum's exhibits his pins, personal diploma and Games medal.

The museum is grateful to all those who are contributing to the creation and preservation of the Games Legacy. The team of the museum continues to receive the memorabilia and other items associated with the previous World University Games.

The Universiade Museum will be located in the building of the Main International Centre (MIC). On 29 June, it will open its doors to the Kazan 2013 SU participants, and in the autumn it will be made available for all visitors.
