Universiade Park opens its doors!

The long-awaited event, which the residents and guests of Kazan have been looking forward to, will happen on July 6. the official opening of the Universiade Park will officially throw its doors open to thousands of local citizens and visitors to the host city of the Summer Universiade. However, all those wishing to do so, can visit the main cultural venues as early as tomorrow, on July 4, at 12:00 (noon) during the dress rehearsal for opening of the Universiade Park.

Opening the ceremony will be artists from the Tetyushsky and Sabinsky Municipal Districts. Starting from 12:00 and working until 23:00 will be houses of friends of the Universiade, FIFA 2018 Football Park, Tatpotrebsoyuz national farmstead zone, and the sales outlet for souvenirs and licensed products. In addition, at noon the playgrounds will open, which have trampolines, boxing machines, a rodeo, cactus-ring toss, and for fans of heights – a giant climbing wall.

This park that can hold up to 30,000 people is located on the waterfront of the Kazanka River in the square in front of the Palace of Farmers. The park will house a catering area, where guests can explore the national cuisine, exhibits of partner companies of the 2013 Summer Universiade, national farmsteads, and scenic grounds. It will also house a special thematic area, where pavilions of organising committees of upcoming Universiades will be located.

An important part of the rehearsal will be test drives of Hyundai cars, which will also begin at 12:00 and will last until 16:00. All the way up to the end of the rehearsal, corporate partners of the Summer Universiade will be present, such as MegaFon, SOGAZ, Danone, Planet Fitness, EF, etc. The EF Company will offer tours of the park in English, Hyundai will hold table football competition, and for the kids an area was prepared where they will learn to apply aqua-makeup. Professional artists will be helping children with this.

In addition, on July 4 in the Universiade Park, Krasnoyarsk will present a display booth as part their official campaign for the right to host the Winter Universiade in 2019. This promises to be one of the most interesting, and what is most important – the most refreshing location. Right in the middle of the hot Kazan park, under a tent, a skating rink will start operating. Comfortable temperature inside the tent will be provided by powerful air conditioners. There will also be a free skate rental offered to all comers. Krasnoyarsk volunteers will help people skate, even those who have never done it before. On July 6, the skating ring will host an autograph session with an Olympic champion, four-time world champion in figure skating, Aleksey Yagudin.

On July 5, the programme in the Universiade Park will be duplicated, however, at 22:00 the famous Cirque du Soleil will hold a dress rehearsal for their special shows.

In total during the Games, the Circus will give 11 performances in the Universiade Park. Entrance to the park, where the circus will perform, will be based on tickets to sporting events of the Summer Universiade, admission for children under 7 years of age is free. Performances of Cirque du Soleil are funded through the support of sponsors and partners of the Games.

We should note that Kazan people will be able to see their own countrymen in the show. Veronique Dussault, director of the show, has selected two eleven-year-old Kazan children - Azat Salakhov and Elvina Sharipova, who, together with their Canadian peers, become the main heroes of the production. The rest of the 80 children that were selected will take part in the show in choreographic numbers, and opening and closing of the shows.

Throughout the 27th Summer Universiade 2013, guests to the Universiade Park will enjoy a rich concert programme.

For example, at the Opening Ceremony on July 6, all fans of live music will be treated to the Universiade Rock Festival Part 1, featuring the bands Sandwitch, Blackbird, Random Reel, M&M, Pluty, Bolshoy Kush, Volga-Volga and Progulschiki, which won the competition for the best song of Kazan and the 27th Summer Universiade – with their song, titled 'Russia, Kazan, Universiade!'.

The Welcome to Russia! Welcome to Kazan! programme is prepared for July 7. It will feature best national, pop, vocal and dance groups of the Russian Federation and the Republic of Tatarstan, as well as Ambassadors of the Universiade, the opera star Aida Garifullina, and violin virtuoso Edgar Hakobyan, actors from the rock-opera theatre-studio Kollazh (Saratov), ​​Egor Sesarev and True Jazz Band (St. Petersburg).

On July 8, the park will hold Family Day. Family Day will be held together with the winners of the Sozvezdie-Yoldyzlyk Festival and the artists of the theatre-studio Kollazh (Saratov).

On July 9, will be the Legends of the Dance Floor programme, in which the band Volga-Volga Kazan, Egor Sesarev and True Jazz Band (St. Petersburg) will perform.

On July 10, the Volunteer Department, ANO New Age and UNAIDS will present the project, titled 'Games for Health, Games of Life'. This evening on the stage will feature envoys from the team, called 'Red Ribbon' – Yulia Lasker (Moscow) and Theo (Belarus), as well as the idols of Kazan's youth, Kazan 2013 Ambassador Dilyara Vagapova and Murakami band.

On July 11, there will be a programme presented by Kazan 2013 volunteers, entitled 'U are the world'. Appearing on stage will be the best artists and performers of federal universities from all over Russia – Saratov, Yoshkar-Ola, Tyumen, Orenburg, Kazan and Cheboksary.

Crazy battles of dance subcultures, performances and master classes by the best dancers in the hip-hop, house, dancehall will be held on July 12. Best beatboxer of Russia Mitya Masta Mike and trendy project Tesla Boy will also perform on this day!

On July 13, the city will celebrate the Tatar national holiday Sabantuy. Best folk groups from Russia and the Republic of Tatasrstan, as well as Tatar pop stars will appear on stage at the park.

July 14 – Tissot Day. DJ Gruv, Smyslovye Galyutsinatsii and Leprikonsy will perform on main stage. 

July 15 – World premiere in Kazan – the epic opera story, Ak Bure.

July 16 – The Champions Day, which will sum up results of the Summer Universiade 2013. The winners will be honoured by the finalist of the Voice TV  project Elmira Kalimullina, and winners of the Big Dance project, Kazan 2013 Ambassadors Jukebox Trio and True Jazz Band.

The closing ceremony of the Universiade Park  – Universiade Rock Festival Part 2 – will be held on July 17.
