The Russian national team took home a bronze medal in the women's sabre at the 2013 Summer Universiade in Kazan. After losing to South Korea in the semifinals, the Russians then went on to defeat the Americans by a score of 45:29 and take third place.

“It was a very difficult match. We tried, but things just weren't working out for us. It will be a lesson for us. At the World Championships, we will fix all of these problems” said Galiakbarova.  “The Universiade was really important of course, especially since it was in Russia. It just didn't work out for us, but a bronze is also a really good result. This will be good motivation for the World Championships.”
