National open field competition among young geologists opens in Kazan

The 9th national open field competition among young geologists has today opened in the Solnechny and Zarechie health camps in Kazan.

Attendees at the opening ceremony were President of Tatarstan, Federal Mineral Wealth Management Agency chief, Russian Geological Society president, ministry heads, and others.

The young geologists competition is held between 1 and 10 August and gathers 40 teams from nearly all parts of the country. Two teams represent Tatarstan.

The opening began with the competition participants marching, after which President of Tatarstan welcomed all those present.

“Receiving delegations as representative from across Russia and the CIS is a great honour for us,” said Rustam Minnikhanov. “I think geologist is a very called for occupation in the countries you represent. It is our future.” He went on to add that some expertise in the field had been accrued in Tatarstan. “I sincerely welcome you in Tatarstan and wish you success in the competition. Let the best one win!” Tatarstan governor concluded.

Federal Mineral Wealth Management Agency chief, Valery Pak, on behalf of the agency welcomed the participants as well.

“I have for over 30 years been a geologist and there has not been one day, when I would regret it, because it is the foundation of Russia’s wealth,” V. Pak said, expressing expectation the 9th national geology competition would leave memories in its participants for the rest of their lives.

“We have been very much in luck to gather in this beautiful republic on a beautiful summer day. There are many things to learn here and things to be proud of,” Russian Geological Society head, Viktor Orlov, took over.

The competition’s flag was then raised, after which the high-ranking visitors viewed an exhibition of young geologists’ achievements. President of Tatarstan and other visitors viewed the display stands and wished the teams success in their future work.
