An opportunity to open diving school in Kazan

15 August 2013, Thursday
According to press service of Kazan Mayor’s Office, Ilsur Metshin, Mayor of Kazan, and Sports Diving Federation (Moscow) administration discussed an opportunity to open a diving school for children utilizing Aquatics Palace premises.

Currently, Kazan has an infrastructure required to organize competition at the highest level. Gleb Galperin, Olympics Champion and President of Sports Diving Federation, said that the new Aquatics Palace satisfies all the requirements of swimmers’ and divers’ comfort: “I participated in three Olympic Games and many World Championships. Your Palace is one of the best, it is a magnificent structure”.

Ilsur Metshin pointed out that the sports infrastructure development will promote sports amongst Kazan citizens: “I think all these venues will become a good basis for training”.

The guests stated that they are ready to support Kazan in opening a specialized diving school for children. However, according to Abduvali Usmanov, First Vice-President of Sports Diving Federation, a lack of expert coaches complicates the development of professional diving: “The thing is, many Meritorious Masters of Sport do not work as coaches after their career in competitions is over, opting for fitness instead”. Nevertheless, Usmanov pointed out that many sportsmen are ready to support the new generation of champions “provided that certain conditions are created”.

“World-class sports infrastructure is created in Kazan, and certainly, we are interested in the coaches of that level,” - said Ilsur Metshin, adding that the city authorities will provide maximum support.

The Mayor tasked the Sports Committee to find the candidates for coaching: “I am waiting for suggestions. We need super-coaches. A good sportsman does not always make a great coach. We need a hard-working person, who can organize everything from ground up”.
