According to Sergey Ivanov, Deputy Minister for Youth Affairs, Sport and Tourism of Tatarstan, and Pavel Grachyov, round-the-world bike tour participant, around a thousand people are expected to participate in Kazan-Sviyazhsk bike ride.
The bike ride takes place on the 22nd of September for the second year in a row. The race aims to attract bike tourists to Sviyazhsk and to show that you can have fun and find new friends there.
Pavel Grachyov agreed that Sviyazhsk is worthy of more attention from all kinds of tourists. The round-the-world race participant expressed his certainty that the tour would further promote the cycle tourism, already gaining popularity.
According to Sergey Ivanov, two groups of bikers will take part in the ride. The first group of 50 people, cyclists with a lot of experience and good training, leaves Kazan with the second group, but races for 80 km. The second group consists of amateurs.
The registration takes place at the square next to Kazan train station on the 22nd of September, in the morning. A participant will need a passport and a bicycle in good condition. Pavel Grachyov also recommended bringing a first-aid kit, water, a spare innertube and some tools for an emergency repair.
When registered, the participants board a special train and leave for the Sviyazhsk train station. On arrival, they ride their bikes for 15 km from the station to the Isle of Sviyazhsk. There, they compete in bike contests, have dinner, listen to a concert and attend a landmarks tour.
After the awards ceremony for the competitions’ winners, the race participants ride their bikes back to the station and take a train back to Kazan. Hence, the main group only takes a 30 km ride.
