In the first play-off round of European Volleyball Championship in Gdansk, Russian team won 3:0 against Slovakia, with 12 aces.

Playing and winning two friendlies against Slovakia before the tournament paid off in many ways.

Until the middle of the first set, Slovakian team held off their opponents quite effectively. Nikolay Apalikov from Kazan and Dmitriy Muserskiy made a total of nine successful attacks, whilst the final score of the set was 25:20.

At the start of the second set, Sivozhelez made two aces (5:2), Alexey Spiridonov – three aces in the end of the set, staring from 21:14, whilst the Slovakian team’s attacks were being effectively blocked.

In the third set, Russian team slowed down – Spiridonov made four mistakes in a short period of time. Slovakian team was able to minimize the gap, but Nikolay Pavlov’s precise attacks led to Russian team’s victory.

Pavlov became the most efficient player of the game with 22 points, whilst Muserskiy, the best Russian player of the previous games, scored only 12 points, including 4 blocks.

On the 25th of September, Russian team plays against France in quarter-final.
