“Kazan has the best conditions for rhythmic gymnastics development,” – stated Yulia Barsukova, Meritorious master of Sport in rhythmic Gymnastics and the 2000 Olympics champion, opening her school in Kazan.

“It feels great to be at this sporting venue. I have never had an opportunity to train and compete at such a hall, I am very glad for our future champions, they have wonderful training conditions,” – stated Barsukova.

According to Rafis Burganov, Minister for Youth Affairs, Sport and Tourism of Tatarstan, Universiade spurred Kazan citizens’ interest in sport, people started enrolling their children in sport schools and going in for sports themselves. The minister thinks that this interest should be maintained and routed appropriately.

Yusup Yakubov, Rector of Volga Region State Academy of Physical Culture, Sport and Tourism, said that rhythmic gymnastics is one of the academy’s priorities with 43 students specializing in it. Four the academy’s students of will coach at Yulia Barsukova’s school.

Gulnara Sergeyeva, President of Tatarstan Rhythmic Gymnastics Federation, stated Yulia Barsukova’s Kazan school is the third one in the county after the ones in Moscow and St Petersburg. Girls aged 4-8 can attend. The training costs more than municipal schools, but the students have much better conditions – they are provided with equipment and have the best coaches.

“Federation has two goals: mass development of rhythmic gymnastics and finding talented children. A combined effort of Volga Region State Academy of Physical Culture, Sport and Tourism and Yulia Barsukova’s school will allow the republic to develop sports and bring up new champions,” – said Sergeyeva.

According to Yulia Barsukova, she intends to visit Kazan from time to time to share her experience with the students.
