KAMAZ-Master starts Dakar with new engines. Part 2

11 November 2013, Monday

Vladimir Chagin told Rustam Minnikhanov, President of Tatarstan, that new silencers have been installed on the cars. Although the rally does not have noise limitations, the team has installed the silencers on their own accord to be able to drive through the towns. The new truck has a slightly different configuration: the fuel tank is put backward to balance the axes.

The team also modernized the manual transmission. According to Chagin, a pilot has to shift gears four-five thousand times per rally stage; hence the ease of switching is a priority. As a result, a pilot spends only 2.3-2.7 seconds changing from the fourth to the eighth gear gradually. Next year, the team plans to try a robotized transmission, as automatic Allison transmission was overheating during the race.
