13 November 2013, Wednesday
The upcoming championships will be Kazan’s first test event in the lead-up to the FINA World Championships, which the sports capital of Russia will host on July 24-August 9, 2015. The Russian Short Course Swimming Championship will be held in the Aquatics Palace, one of the key venues of this year’s Summer Universiade. It is one of the largest indoor swimming pools in Russia, with a total area of 44,000 sq.m. and the seating capacity of 3,500 people. The unique sports complex whose construction had been launched in the build-up to the 27th Summer Universiade was commissioned in late-March 2013. In a month, it hosted its first competitions; first – the Russian Diving Championship (April 11-17) and then – the Russian Swimming Cup final (April 16-22) and Russian Synchronised Swimming Championship (April 23-27). The venue was designed and constructed in compliance with the FINA requirements and is fully adapted for people with limited mobility. Since the first days of its operation, the venue got excellent feedback from Russian swimmers and excited general admiration. It’s worth noting that right after the Kazan Universiade where Yulia Efimova gained victory at the Aquatics Palace, she took two gold medals at the World Championships in Barcelona.
