A young 14-year-old but well-decorated athlete, eight-time winner of the European Youth Olympic Festival Arina Openysheva earned bronze. It's the first time that she participates in the senior national championship. She qualified for the final three times and twice she fell short of the podium - she finished fourth in the 400m and 800m freestyle events, and only in her third final - the 200m event - she finally ended runner-up (1.58.93).
"I am happy that I took my first medal at the senior national championship. My main goal for this competition was to improve my results. And I did well," said Arina Openysheva. "After the Russian championship, I will go to Volgograd to compete at the Russian National Youth Swimming Championships. And for me, this competition is a major one."
