13 December 2013, Friday

On New Year's Eve, residents of Kazan will witness a true fairy tale. Three-time Olympic synchro swimming champion Maria Kiseleva prepared a wonderful surprise for citizens and guests of the city. The Little Mermaid and Pirate Treasure, such is the name of the show that will unfold in the Aquatics Palace between December 28 and January 7. The celebrated synchro swimmer attended today a press conference at the Tatar-inform Information Agency where she talked about the final preparations for the show, which will contribute to further promotion of aquatic sports among Russian sports fans.

"This project includes a mix of several genres, several kinds of arts, sports, and in fact it harmoniously combines seemingly incongruous things. The show is staged on three levels: in the pool, on the stages - the structures that are built on the sides of the pool and in the air - on diving platforms," said Maria Kiseleva.

Synchronised swimming and diving, flyboard stunts that will have you dizzy and flights over water, unique floating sets and performances on the podium - all this is in store for the audience. The show is said to be the most memorable New Year's event for young residents of Kazan. Spectators will be able to enjoy the performances by athletes representing different sports, as well as theatre, cinema and circus celebrities. The New Year atmosphere will reign in the lobby of the Aquatics Palace. All activities will be interactive. Children's entertainers, face painting, greetings from Father Frost, an opportunity to communicate with the main characters of fairy tales - all this will evoke a sense of wonder in the spectators. To experience this holiday, all you need is to purchase tickets on the website of the ticketing operator KASSIR.RU.

The Maria Kiseleva team presents the water show to the public for the fourth year in a row - previously, they performed in Moscow and in St. Petersburg. It is the first time that the team will perform in Kazan. There is a good reason why the capital of Tatarstan was chosen as the next destination for the show - in 2015, it will host the FINA World Championships. Maria Kiseleva admitted that she sees synchronised swimming, which is included in the programme of the championships, as her lifework. "Promotion of aquatics sports is a very serious motivation for us. For girls, it is one of the best sports because it develops a human being harmoniously. Swimming is health, development and hardening. It's guts. Sport helps later in life. And champions come from grassroots sports," said the legendary synchro swimmer. According to her, the project also aims to promote sports and to urge children start playing aquatics sports. The project is supported by the Government of the Republic of Tatarstan and the Mayor's Office.

Maria Kiseleva also shared her impressions of the Universiade, which had been held this summer in Kazan. Quite recently, in July, she was the Torchbearer for the 27th World University Summer Games. "I loved the Universiade. The preparatory work, the delivery, and what is happening now, after the Games, are impressive. Kazan is a city of sports. There are many venues, new sports clubs are opened, and both children and their parents can play sports and work out. It is very important for a health of a human being. Kazan has the experience of hosting major events, competitions, tournaments and an opportunity to apply it. I think, it is a huge step forward for the development of the city, the region and our entire country in general. The city has come a long way over the years. I think, now there is no person in the city who is not happy that the city has transformed," said Maria Kiseleva.
