Olympic cauldron lit at Kazan-Arena

Svetlana Demina, Sydney Olympics silver medalist, many times World and European champion in trap shooting, became the final Tatarstan torchbearer.

Ildar Khalikov pointed out that 2013 was a year of Universiade for Russia, whilst 2014 will be the year of Olympics: "We are proud that the 2014 Olympics' flame is here, in Universiade's capital, during these New Year celebrations."

"Universiade taught us an important lesson: we learned to aim high and succeed together," - said Ilsur Metshin, thanking everyone who helped in the Games' organization.

The celebration at the stadium continued after lighting the Olympic cauldron.
