KAMAZ technical truck wins Dakar’s fifth stage unexpectedly. Part 2

The fifth part of Dakar-2014 rally concluded in Argentina, covering 527 km of special stage between Chilecito and Tucuman.

KAMAZ trucks were in the lead the whole time, sometimes changing places.

Surprisingly, Dmitry Sotnikov’s crew on a technical truck came first, followed by Andrey Karginov in 2 minutes 56 seconds. Gerard De Rooy on IVECO came third, yielding 12 minutes 7 seconds to the leader.

Nikolaev’s crew was the fourth to cross the finish line, despite leading at the start of the stage. Anton Shibalov came ninth with a variation of 43 minutes 24 seconds.

Despite today’s third place, Gerard De Rooy’s crew is still in the lead after five stages. Andrey Karginov and Esuard Nikolaev rank second and third, respectively.
