The meeting was attended by Minister of Healthcare of the Republic of Tatarstan Adel Vafin, Director General of the Kazan 2013 Executive Directorate Azat Kadyrov, Deputy Director General and Chief of Staff of the Directorate Larisa Sulima, representatives of the volunteer team, doctors and other professionals who arrived from Kazan to contribute to the success of the Olympic Games. Artists involved in the Olympic Games Opening Ceremony were also invited to meet with the Mayor of Kazan.

The event was held in an informal atmosphere. Ilsur Metshin inquired if those present had enjoyed yesterday's Opening Ceremony, and asked whether they are content with food, transportation and work of other Olympic services. The Kazan specialists replied that the Olympics were organised to the highest standard and explained how the experience gained at the Universiade is of assistance to them here.

As we reported earlier, 2,500 people from the Republic of Tatarstan work in the team of the Olympic organisers, and the majority of them are from Kazan. Up to 300 former staff members of the Kazan 2013 Executive Directorate are currently supporting the organisation of the Sochi Olympic Games, most of them occupying key positions in the Organising Committee. Plus, 327 Kazan volunteers headed to Sochi to support the Games in such functional areas as Ceremonies and IT. Small groups of volunteers for such additional positions as NOC assistants, sports programme volunteers and medical volunteers were also selected in Kazan. They were formed on the request of the Sochi 2014 Organising Committee.

As was noted at the meeting, only three Russian regions were entitled to send their medical workers to provide healthcare services at the Games. Apart from 220 doctors from Tatarstan, the responsibility for this important area will be placed on representatives of the Krasnodar Krai and Moscow. Plus, 400 emergency workers, 700 police officers and 900 transportation providers arrived in the Olympic host city to help make the Games a safe, secure and comfortable place.

The meeting took place on the site of the exposition of Russian regions in the Olympic Park. Tatarstan is the principal subject of the Volga Federal District, responsible for organising the exhibition on behalf of VFD. The Volga Region exhibition has 560 square metres of floor area and represents an integral cultural space which smoothly combines all 14 members of the district. Every eye is drawn to the largest display screen at the exhibition, which plays promotional videos of regions of the Volga Federal District, reports the official website of the Kazan City Hall.

The Sochi 2014 Winter Olympics officially kicked off on February 7. The marvelous Opening Ceremony was held at the Fisht Olympic Stadium. Top athletes from more than 80 countries will compete in 98 medal events. 64 sets of medal will be awarded at the 11th Paralympic Games due to be held in Sochi from March 7 to 16.
