Russian Swimming Championships 25m: More records broken on final day

14 gold medals were contested on the closing day of the Russian Swimming Championships (25m) in Kazan.

Women's 4x50m freestyle

1. Moscow (Rozalia Nasretdinova, Ekaterina Kudinova, Maria Reznikova, Maria Kudelkina) - 1:39.71

2. St. Petersburg (Veronika Popova, Daria Ustinova, Irina Shvaeva, Daria Kartashova) - 1:40.07

3. Republic of Tatarstan (Olesya Korchagina, Irina Prikhodko, Yana Martynova, Lilia Giniyatullina) - 1:44.06

Women's 50m backstroke

1. Aleksandra Papusha, Moscow - 27.11

2. Nadezhda Vinyukova, Moscow - 27.47

3. Daria Ustinova, Sverdlovsk Oblast - 27.49

All the swimmers failed to meet the qualifying standard for the FINA World Championships.

Women's 200m breaststroke

1. Vitalina Simonova, Novosibirsk Oblast - Orenburg Oblast - 2:18.03 (national record)

2. Maria Astashkina, Penza Oblast - 2:20.92 (national junior record)

3. Sofia Andreeva, St. Petersburg - 2:21.67

Vitalina Simonova broke the national record, which belonged to Yulia Efimova, and earned a spot in the World Championships. 15-year-old Maria Astashkina improved the national junior record and made the qualification as well.

"I did not expect to win because I haven't prepared that much for this event. Little time has passed after the European Championships, and I haven't recovered yet. But previous days showed that I'm progressing. It's my first national record ever and I'm very happy about it," Vitalina Simonova admitted after winning the heat.

Women's 100m butterfly

1. Svetlana Chimrova, Moscow - 57.03 (national record)

2. Anastasia Lyazeva, St. Petersburg - 57.67

3. Alina Kashinskaya, Sverdlovsk Oblast - 58.40

Svetlana Chimrova was hundredths of a second short of finishing under 57, but it was still enough for the national record. "My mother called me after the 50-metre heat and said: "What are you doing? Pull yourself together!" And I pulled myself together and did my best in the 100 metres," Svetlana Chimrova said after her win.

Women's 50m freestyle

1. Rozalia Nasretdinova, Moscow - 24.34

2. Elizaveta Bazarova, Tula Oblast - 24.54

3. Svetlana Knyaginina, St. Petersburg - Komi Republic - 24.86

By winning gold in the 50m freestyle event, Rozalia Nasretdinova earned fifth national title at the championships in Kazan. She gained a spot on the national junior team for the World Championships.

Women's 200m freestyle

1. Veronika Popova, St. Petersburg - 1:53.09 (national record)

2. Viktoria Andreeva, Penza Oblast - 1:55.32

3. Arina Openysheva, Krasnoyarsk Krai - 1:56.40 (national junior record)

Veronika Popova took yet another gold and set the national record in the 200m freestyle event. 

Women's 4x100m medley relay

1. Sverdlovsk Oblast (Daria Ustinova, Daria Deeva, Alina Kashinskaya, Polina Lapshina) - 3:56.44

2. Moscow (Alexander Papusha, Vera Kalashnikova, Svetlana Chimrova, Elena Sokolova) - 3:57.98

3. St. Petersburg (Ekaterina Andreeva, Sofia Andreeva, Anastasia Lyazeva, Veronika Popova) - 3:59.81

Men's 100m freestyle

1. Danila Izotov, Krasnodar Krai - 46.66

2. Sergey Fesikov, Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug - Penza Oblast - 46.67

3. Nikita Konovalov, Volgograd Oblast - 47.15

Danila Izotov won his second title at the national championships, and, just like Sergey Fesikov, he met the World Championships qualification. "It's difficult to be content with everything in sports, but at this point in time I achieved my full potential," Izotov commented on his performance at the tournament.

1. Dmitry Gorbunov, Moscow - 1:53.79

2. Igor Sorokin, Moscow - 1:54.40

3. Anton Anchin, Republic of Bashkortostan - 1:55.46

Men's 100m individual medley

1. Vyacheslav Prudnikov, St. Petersburg - 53.58

2. Daniil Pasynkov, Moscow - 53.62

3. Dmitry Zhilin, Moscow - 54.16

All the swimmers missed out on the World Championships qualifying time.

Men's 50m breaststroke

1. Kirill Prigoda, St. Petersburg - 26.48

2. Sergey Geibel, Novosibirsk Oblast - 26.54

3. Oleg Kostin, Nizhny Novgorod Oblast - 26.67

Men's 200m butterfly

1. Alexander Kudashev, Samara Oblast - 1:51.80

2. Nikolay Skvortsov, Kaluga Oblast - 1:52.83

3. Bogdan Ionov, Moscow - 1:55.48

Two swimmers from each heat managed to qualify for the World Championships. "I was perfectly aware that the fight will be not for meeting the qualifying standard but for earning a spot on the national team. All competitors were strong, everyone could win and meet the qualification. That's why I mentally prepared myself for victory not for a good result," Alexander Kudashev said after the heat.

Men's 1,500m freestyle

1. Evgeny Kulikov, Moscow - 14:56.79

2. Sergey Strelnikov, Volgograd Oblast - 15:00.55

3. Sergey Bolshakov, Moscow Oblast - Republic of Udmurtia - 15:03.72

Men's 4x100m medley relay

1. St. Petersburg (Roman Mikhailov, Kirill Prigoda, Oleg Tikhobaev, Vyacheslav Prudnikov) - 3:28.93

2. Volgograd Oblast (Pavel Kosmynin, Kirill Strelnikov. Nikita Konovalov. Ivan Kuzmenko) - 3:29.34

3. Moscow (Dmitry Maltsev, Anton Chupkov, Evgeny Korotyshkin, Mikhail Polishchuk) - 3:29.52

After all medal events wrapped up, Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports of the Republic of Tatarstan Vladimir Leonov awarded athletes and coaches who showcased exemplary athletic achievements and commitment to sport at the Russian Swimming Championships (25m) in Kazan. Among those who received trophies were such swimmers as Nikita Korolev, Alexander Krasnykh, Valeria Dudina, Yana Martynova, Irina Prikhodko, Stanislav Zatsepin, Vladislav Tazov and Timur Galimzyanov, and such coaches as Gulnara Aminova, Sergey Kuznetsov, Tatiana Alifashkina, Eduard Gizatullin, Vasily Tsyganko and Alexey Kuznetsov.
