FINA diving World Series: russian mixed duet wins bronze

Yulia TIMOSHININA and Nikita SHLEKHER, who represents the Republic of Tatarstan, grabbed bronze medals in the 10m mixed synchro diving event on the closing day of the FINA Diving World Series in Kazan. They made it to the podium thanks to their near perfect performance of 3.2-3.3-degree of difficulty dives.

China’s Junjie LIAN and Yajie SI claimed gold with the Canadian duet Meaghan BENFEITO and Vincent RIENDEAU earning silver. Nikita SHLEIKHER and Yulia TIMOSHININA added the fourth medal to Russia’s tally.

“The competitions were staged to the highest standard in Kazan. All services did a great job, the Championships' dressing is really beautiful. The Kazan leg of the FINA Diving World Series was held at the highest level in terms of event management. And the World Championships will be held to even higher standard and there will be no flaws,” said the head coach of the Russian national team, Oleg Zaitzev, in his interview summing up the results of the Kazan World Series leg. ”We won two silver and two bronze medals in Kazan. At the present moment, these trophies reflect the current state of our team’s readiness for this tournament. Our main events are the European and world championships. Our target is to win gold, silver, bronze.”

Pretty soon Russia’s top divers will be back again to Kazan. On May 19-24, the Aquatics Palace will play host to the Russian Diving Championships.
