Ten mixed-gender duets will perform in the synchronised swimming tournament at the 16th FINA World Championships, FINA Executive Director Cornel Marculescu told the R-Sport News Agency today. Diving and synchronised swimming mixed duet events will make a debut on the World Championships programme in Kazan.
Notably, such decorated synchro swimmers as Virginie Dedieu (FRA) and Gemma Mengual (ESP), who had already wrapped up their professional careers, returned to the sport for an opportunity to perform in this new event. “Ten mixed-gender duets will compete at the synchronised swimming tournament in Kazan. It’s a solid start given that this event will be presented for the first time at the World Championships,” the FINA Executive Director said.
The 16th FINA World Championships will be held in Kazan from July 24 to August 9, 2015. In February 2015, the International Swimming Federation (FINA) granted the Rossiya Segodnya International Information Agency (MIA Rossiya Segodnya), which also incorporates the R-Sport News Agency, the status of a host national news agency and photo pool for the 16th FINA World Championships in Kazan. For the first time in Russian and Soviet swimming's history, a Russian information agency will act as the major source of up-to-the-minute news and photo content for this prestigious international sporting event.
