9 September 2015, Wednesday

Today, a new ice palace, Zolotaya Shayba (Golden Puck), has been opened. Acting President of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov and Mayor of Kazan Ilsur Metshin became honorary guests of the event.

A capsule in form of a puck was laid here a year ago on 27 August at the construction site of the ice palace with total area of 5,855 square meters. Upon arrival, the guests toured the new ice palace, which includes an ice hockey rink, gymnasium, aerobics room, various auxiliary facilities.

It should be recalled that 100 million rubles were allocated from the federal budget for the construction thanks to the victory of Kazanskie Drakony hockey team at the Ice Hockey Amateur’s National Festival in 2013 (Champions League Division). In addition, funds for the construction were also allocated from republican and municipal budgets.

"This is a solemn and exciting event, a new ice rink has been opened in one of the largest districts of Kazan. I want to thank our builders, Rustam Minnikhanov and Kazanskie Drakony s team," Ilsur Metshin said at the opening of the sports facility.

"We are proud that ice hockey is developing and many of our children and adults love to play in it. The republic has all the conditions for its development, there are 40 ice arenas," the acting President of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov said.

Captain of Kazanskie Drakony team expressed his gratitude to the leader of Tatarstan for help in building of the new sports facility.

A goal scored marked symbolic opening of the ice palace.

After the official part of the event, a match between Kazanskie Drakony and Tatarstan was held.
