Krylya Barsa Kazan takes 3rd position at 2015 Russian Wheelchair Basketball Open Cup

The 2015 Russian Wheelchair Basketball Open Cup ended in Kazan, it was held in the capital of Tatarstan for seventh time. The final match winner was the team of BasKI.Nevskie Zvezdy from St. Petersburg, winning Kazan team, Krylya Barca, in a bitter struggle with the score 65:58.

Getting started on September 19,the competition was attended by eight teams from different regions of Russia: two St. Petersburg’s clubs - Nevsky Alyans and BasKI.Nevskie Zvezdy, Uralets from Chelyabinsk, Shans Tyumen, Volga Ulyanovsk, Locomotive Izhevsk. Tatarstan was represented by two teams - Yar Chally from Naberezhnye Chelny and Krylya Barca Kazan.

The tournament took place at the training base of BC UNICS, in Vasilevo village. On September 21,the final games were held at the Basket Hall, particularly the match Krylya Barca versus BasKI.Nevskie Zvezdy.

The match turned out to be fatal for Kazan team, competing for bronze and gold medals.

"This year, we have deliberately fought for the first and second positions, comparing to the previous year. This tournament offers a good opportunity to prepare for other competitions, including the second round of the Russian Wheelchairs Basketball Championship" Kazan captain Vasily Kochetkov said, being the most productive player of the meeting scoring 30 points.

According to the results, the first position goes to BasKI from Saint Petersburg, the second also goes to the north capital’s club, Nevsky Alyans.

Athletes were awarded with prizes by honor guests of the competition, including deputy Chairman of Tatarstan State Council Rimma Ratnikova, Chairman of the Social Policy Committee of Tatarstan State Council Svetlana Zakharova, Tatarstan Minister of Labour, Employment and Social Protection Elmira Zaripova, deputy Tatarstan Minister of Youth and Sports Shaikhutdinov Khalil, Head of Tatarstan Ministry of Justice Viktor Demidov, Head coach of Russian national wheelchair basketball team Dmitry Olenevsky, and others.
