Guinness record may be set at Davis Cup in Kazan

Captain of the Russian national tennis team Shamil Tarpishchev may get in the Guinness Book of Records, in case of victory of the Russian national team over the Sweden team at the Davis Cup match in Kazan to be held March 4-6. It was claimed today by First Deputy Minister of Youth and Sport of Tatarstan Khalil Shaikhutdinov at a press conference held by Tatar-Inform information agency.

According to the deputy minister, 137 matches were led by Tarpishchev at various international competitions, 86 of which ended in victories. Moreover, 54 victories were gained at the Davis Cup. "The same result was achieved by Australian coach Neil Fraser. If the Russian team wins in Kazan, Tarpishchev will get in the Guinness Book of Records," Shaikhutdinov said.

From the Sweden side, Isak Arvidsson Daniel Vindaloo, Robert Lindstedt and Ioan Brunstrem will play in the cup. The Russian team will be represented by Teimuraz Gabashvili, Andrey Kuznetsov, Evgeny Donskoy and Konstantin Kravchuk. The match will consist of five games, four of which are single and one - paired. The winner will receive the right to play against the Dutch team for qualifying for the World Group playoffs.
