A meeting of the WorldSkills International Board of Directors started today, March 8, in Kazan. Present at the meeting were President of WorldSkills International (WSI) Simon Bartley, WSI Chief Executive Officer David Hoey, members of the Board of Directors and the WSI Secretariat. On March 9, a project session involving the WSI Secretariat will kick off to discuss the preparation for the world competition. It will continue until 15 March.
As part of the project session, the WSI Secretariat will present key strategies and documents governing the preparation and staging of the WorldSkills Competition, and talk about the mechanisms of working with partners and sponsors. Together with representatives of the Russian Organising Committee, WorldSkills Russia Union, and the Directorate for Sports and Social Projects, communication and marketing strategies projects, and the business programme will be developed, and the specifics of technical development of competition sites will be studied.
It should be noted that some members of the WSI Board of Directors already visited Kazan during the inspection visit and Future Skills International Forum last spring. This included Simon Bartley, President of WSI, San-Quei Lin, Vice President for Special Affairs, and Stefan Praschl, Vice President for Competitions. For the first time, the capital of Tatarstan will be visited by David Hoey, CEO of WSI, Jos de Goey, Vice President for Strategic Affairs, Michael Fung, Vice Chair of the Competitions Committee, Ali Al Marzouqi, Ex Officio WorldSkills Abu Dhabi 2017, and other officials.
As was reported earlier, the WorldSkills Competition will be staged in Kazan from 18 to 23 August, 2019. Construction of the key competition venue – Kazan Expo Complex – is being carried out in the build-up to the competition in Kazan. The groundbreaking ceremony took place in March 2015 during WSI President Simon Bartley’s inspection visit to Kazan.
