16 June 2016, Thursday

Tatarstan swimmer, Vice-World Champion Yana Martynova has been disqualified for using banned substances for four years. She claimed that she was not going to challenge the decision on her dismissal at the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) in Lausanne.

"We have decided not to appeal to CAS," Martynova said at a press conference in Kazan.

As the director of the Sport Training Center of the republic Mikhail Smolkin has said, Prohibited substance might entered swimmer’s body through contaminated product, probably barbeque. "Trying to prove something in this case is useless. It is pointless to appeal and spend big money. One can build a church or a mosque for it. Yana has a good idea to open her own swimming school. It is better to spend resources on it."

"All the same, our efforts will be in vain. Of course, we feel dissatisfied, as we failed to prove the innocence of Jana," Smolkin said.

Yana Martynova is a multiple champion of Russia, silver medalist of the 2007 World Championships in 400 m complex. She also won the bronze of the 2008 European Championships and the gold of the Universiade-2013 on this distance.
