Aleksandr Krasnykh gains first Russian short course swimming championships medal

The Russian Short Course Swimming Championships 2017 started with a victory of Aleksandr Krasnykh.

Men’s freestyle, 200m

The first event of the Championships was the men's freestyle 200m race. Aleksandr Krasnykh topped the podium (1:42.02), closely followed by Mikhail Dovgalyuk (1:42.85), and Mikhail Vekovishev (1:43.42).

1. Aleksandr Krasnykh (Republic of Tatarstan) - 1:42.02

2. Mikhail Dovgalyuk (Moscow-1) - 1:42.85

3. Mikhail Vekovishev (Kaluga Oblast) - 1:43.42.

Women's butterfly, 200m

Two records have been set at this event. Svetlana Chimrova improved her own time and broke the record of Russia, and Svetlana Chimrova earned a title of a junior record holder.

1. Svetlana Chimrova (Moscow-1) - 2:04.36

2. Aleksandra Sabitova (Kemerovo Oblast) - 2:07.34

3. Anastasia Guzhenkova (Samara Oblast) - 2:07.70

Women's individual medley, 400m

17 years old Irina Krivonogova was first at the morning preliminaries, but Kristina Vershinina took the lead in the finals and earned gold.

1. Kristina Vershinina (Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrug) - 4:35.58

2. Irina Krivonogova (Samara Oblast-1) - 4:37.32

3. Daria Chikunova (Saint Petersburg) - 4:40.05

A number of semifinals also took place on Saturday. The women’s 50m breaststroke event was dominated by Yuliya Yefimova. It should be noted that Yuliya Yefimova is a holder of the world record - 29.08. Today she covered the distance in 29.82.

Maria Kameneva won the women's semifinal backstroke event (57.50), finishing ahead of more experienced Anastasia Fesikova (57.97). The finals promise to be breathtaking.

Kliment Kolesnikov broke the junior world record in the 100m backstroke event in the semifinals. He improved his own result from the tournament of 2016 in Kazan. The new Junior World Record is 50.44.

Aleksandr Kharlanov (50.57) and Aleksandr Sadovnikov were the best in the men's butterfly 100m event.

The men's breaststroke 50m event featured the excellent performance of Oleg Kostin (57.43).
