The Russian Synchronised Swimming Championship for almost 300 contenders from 14 regions came to an end in Kazan. On April 27, the clinching day of the competitions, the free duet routines wrapped up the national championship.
The two previous days defined the leaders of the competitions - the synchro swimmers from Moscow. They brought six teams to Kazan and missed the podium only in one discipline. In the culminating event they managed to win the silver medal: Eva and Maya Zotovs and Alexandra Popova earned almost 92 points, losing about one point to Kristina Averina and Ekaterina Sbrodova of the Moscow region.
For Averina and Sbrodova this gold is the second in the tournament. The day before they confidently executed the technical routine and remained out of reach for their opponents. The third place in the free routine among duets was taken by Alisa Golubeva and Yana Presnyakova of Saint Petersburg Team One, the powerhouse from the northern capital city which did a decent job in the national championship.
The Moscow synchro swimmers finished on top of the medal chart. Overall they earned over 640 points and deserved a confident win. The synchro swimmers from Saint Petersburg were ranked second, slightly over 10 points separating from the top spot. The Moscow region with 627 points finished third in the medal standings.
