1,500 students of the 1-5 grade from major cities of the Republic of Tatarstan took part in the Football Lesson project. In the lead-up to the World Cup, pupils from Naberezhnye Chelny, Nizhnekamsk, Almetyevsk and Zelenodolsky District learnt about the history of the major football event, its organisation process and, of course, the Kazan matches.
In May-June 2018 Tatarstan schools held 5 football lessons for primary school children. On May 14 the lesson took place in the Kazan Federal University IT Lyceum. In Naberezhnye Chelny, the football lesson was held for students of Cadet School № 82 named the Hero of the Soviet Union - Mr. Ildar Mannanov. The Gymnasium №32 joined the project in Nizhnekamsk and brought together 300 young students at the football lesson. Tatarstan's 70th anniversary of oil fields development Secondary General School in Almetyevsk participated in the project as well as it managed to hold the lesson for the biggest number of students – 350 pupils were present at the event. The series of football lessons wrapped up in Vasilyevo Cadet School.
Every lesson finished with a quiz where the most attentive ones were able to win prizes and awarding a poster with the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia™ mascot dedicated to the healthy lifestyle.
Football Lesson is a project held under the umbrella of the "Russia-2018" Organising Committee, implemented with the help of the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia™ Volunteer Centres. The goal of the lessons is to tell about the World Cup 2018, volunteer programme of the event, and its legacy. The lessons started in December 2015 as a part of the "Generation 2018" Programme which aims to unite the football enthusiasts around the tournament and its values: mutual respect, healthy lifestyle, and fair game. Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Tatarstan, Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sport of the Republic of Tatarstan, Department of Education of the Kazan Executive Committee, higher education institutions, and regional public organization "Academy of creative youth of the Republic of Tatarstan" are the partners of the project in Tatarstan.
