The first athletics competitions took place today at the Central Stadium in Kazan. Nine medal sets were up for grabs.
In discus throw event, Elena Panova took gold with a result of 59.17m. She was closely followed be Yekaterina Strokova (58.50m). Bronze went to Yulia Maltseva (56.37m).
"After Zhukovsky I did not throw, only with my left hand, my neck hurt. It was painful but I endured it. Something went wrong today. I failed at throwing, may be it was too heavy, or may be I was thinking about something else. All in all, I am pleased to be the first, and happy about the season in general," told us Elena Panova after the victory.
Elizaveta Tsareva was the strongest at the hammer throw. Her result is 70.72m. The medallists of the event were also Sofya Palkina (67.68) and Natalya Polyakova (66.54).
In the 110m, Konstantin Shabanov topped the podium with a result of 13.53s. The runner up is Fillip Shabanov (13.88), and bronze went to Sergey Solodov (13.88).
In the women's 110 metres hurdles the first place was taken by Yekaterina Galitskaya with a result of 13.21s. Veronika Chervinskaya (13.21) and Ekaterina Bleskina (13.40) took silver and bronze respectively.
Kristina Sivkova earned a champion title after covering a distance of 100m in 11.30s. Kristina Khorosheeva (11,42) was second. Elena Chernyaeva settled for bronze (11.51).
Denis Ogarkov was the fastest at the men's 100m event with a result of 10,32s. Ruslan Perestyuk finished second (10,33) and Dmitry Lopin (10,34) was third.
Mariya Lasitskene accomplished a 2m jump at the first attempt in the high jump. Anna Chicherova grabbed silver with a 1,90m jump on the first try. Tatyana Odineva succeeded with a a 1,90m jump as well, but since it was her third attempt, she settled for bronze.
At the 5000m women event the gold medal went to Elena Korobkina (15.19,11). She was followed by Yekaterina Ishova (15.24,09) and Elena Sedova (15.26,64). Yevgenii Rybakov proved to be the fastest among men at the 5000m (13.23,57). Anatolii Rybakov became a silver medallist (13.26,25). Artem Leonenko grabbed bronze (13.27,61).
