The series of performances will be opened by the signature play of the theatre – the play entitled 'The Blue Shawl' by Karim Tinchurin. This play has become a symbol of the Tatar Theatre and has acquired a legendary status. It has been on the stage since 1926, and the interest of the audience for this production has not ceased. In order to understand the phenomenon of the Tatar Theatre, one must see The Blue Shawl, feel it not just at the level of the sequence of events, but by tuning in to its powerful emotional wave. The performance is given in the Tatar language and it is simultaneously interpreted into Russian, English, Spanish and French.
The most favourite performance of the audience, given by the Kamal Theatre, is The Grooms for Gregory's Daughter by Tufan Minnullin, and it will be shown on July 13. This is an ethnographic musical comedy about the life of baptised Tatars, which is full of music, songs and dance. The Grooms for Gregory's Daughter has been performed to full houses for 18 years already.
In July, you can see such performances as The Late Summer, where all the masters of the theatre take part; Princess Turandot, the last season's premiere by the Chinese director Ma Zhenghong; Smart Girls, the classic of Tatar drama by Tazi Gizzat; and The Black Felt Cloak, a performance that has been staged for 11 years and earned many awards and the love of the audience at the Kamal Theatre.
The series of the performances of the Cultural Universiade will be completed by the play staged by Farid Bikchantaev, Chief Director of the Tatar Academic Theatre named after Galiaskar Kamal, based on Fatkhi Burnash's Young Hearts. This touching comedy about love and youth was written during the First World War. Director Farid Bikchantaev introduced vocal and dance numbers with live band music into the performance, and the play turned into a sparkling comedy with powerful energy of youth. The listed performances are provided with a translation into Russian and English.
