Museum of Islamic Culture opens silk painting exhibition

Farida Kharrasova's exhibition titled 'Silver Meadows: Tatar Ornament in Contemporary Batik' has opened at the Museum of Islamic Culture in Kazan as part of the Cultural Universiade project.

Silk painting by Farida Kharrasova is described by the exhibition organisers as "the combination of precise graphics with the colour harmony of the painting". The exhibition presents a collection of painted silk panels, scarves and palatines made with the use of the cold batik technique and based on Tatar ornamental motifs.

"My thoughts lead me to our ethnic motifs, but I like to give them a new, contemporary meaning through new means and materials, in particular, through the big potential of modern batik..." says the artist. In her works, the trees, flowers, birds, grass, the sky with the stars, – all of it is gradually transferred to the ornament.

The artists uses only pure silk of varying density and quality in her work. The works presented at the exhibition were carried out either in the free painting technique or in the cold batik reserving technique.

Farida Kharrasova was born in Kazan, and she finished N.I.Feshin Kazan Art School. She spent many years working as a design artist at the Republic's leading magazines, such as Tatarstan and Idel. As a graphic artist, she illustrated dozens of books. Apart from that, she continued to work on her paintings and interior design. A large number of her works are in private galleries and decorate the interiors of those who love art.
