Vitaly Mutko: Summer Universiade victories are great contribution to Russian sport development

The Minister of Sport of the Russian Federation came to the Universiade Village in order to congratulate the first medal-winners of the 27th Summer Universiade from Russia at the end of the third day of competitions.

19 gold medals, 9 silver medals and 15 bronze ones provided Russia with the first place in team scoring unconditionally during the first days of the Universiade. And honouring the medal-winners at the end of the competition day is a good tradition. In the evening of July 8, Vitaly Mutko (Minister of Sport of the Russian Federation), Oleg Matytsin (FISU 1st Vice-President, and Russian Student Sports Union President), Rafis Burganov (Minister of Youth Affairs, Sport and Tourism of the Republic of Tatarstan), Farid Abdulganiev (Mayor of the Universiade Village), leaders of the Russian delegation and team coaches gathered near the Universiade Village Russian House on this occasion with purpose.

Vitaly Mutko began his address to athletes with apologies: “I am sorry but I can’t talk aloud. I lost my voice at the stadium when I supported our track and field athletes,” admitted the Minister. “Your results are guarantees for our future victories. Our big projects are ahead. We are proud of you, outstanding people of our society,” mentioned Vitaly Mutko during his conversation with athletes.

He rewarded all the Universiade winners of the last days with medals to the applause. They obtained medals in different sports: fencing, track and field athletics, rowing, diving, judo, gymnastics, synchronised swimming, belt wrestling. As for wrestling, Minister admitted that the leaders of Tatarstan urged to include it to the official programme with purpose.  The Russian wrestlers showed their best results in competitions.

Loud exclamations 'Russia! Russia!' were heard through the whole territory of the Universiade Village at the end of this meeting. New competition days are ahead and athletes are ready for them.
