Kieran Thomas Murphy, the UK national university football team leader, said, that for the players of his team, a victory over the Russian footballers in the Universiade semifinals was the best moment in their life.
On Sunday, the UK national university team defeated the Russian footballers in a penalty series (5:3) during the Universiade semifinal. The main time of the game ended in a tie – 1:1.
“Feelings? It’s the best night in our life, because we have outplayed the brilliant team of Russia comprised of excellent players. These are footballers playing for Rubin in the Champions League. And we are just a good team that fought till the very end. Indeed, we were lucky, but we are very happy,” said Murphy to journalists after the game.
The UK team leader thinks that his team was better than the team of Russia in terms of psychology and mood. “The Russians also were eager to win. When we missed a goal, I thought that was the end. However, we continued to fight. After we remained in the minority, we started to play in a very compact manner and eventually we equalised the score. Being calm in a penalty series? It’s a lottery!” explained the football player. “We have only one footballer who trains seven days a week. The others are university students,” said Murphy.
