China’s Xue Zhao takes gold at Universiade chess tournament

The Chinese chess player Xue Zhao has won the chess tournament at the Universiade in Kazan.

In the final round of the chess tournament, Xue Zhao ended her match against Tuvshingtugs Batchimeg from Mongolia in a tie. Her closest rival, also Chinese, Wenjun Ju had a chance to surpass the leader, but also tied her game against Georgian Sopiko Guramishvili. In the final tally, Xue Zhao accumulated a total of 7.5 points.

The silver medal went to Ju Wenjun (7), who defeated another Chinese chess player Tan Zhongyi (7) in additional criteria.

On the Russian team, Anastasia Savina took 4th place, Anastasia Bondaruk was 5th, Alina Kashlinskaya was 7th and Olga Girya came in 24th.
