Russians choose Kazan Universiade as most memorable event of July

The 27th Summer Universiade, held in Kazan from 6 to 17 July 2013, has been voted the most memorable event of the month by citizens of Russia, according to Levada Centre (Yuri Levada Analytical Centre). The survey was conducted on July 18-22 among the Russia-wide poll of urban and rural population over 18 years based on a representative sample of 1,601 people from 130 settlements in 45 regions of the country.

The World University Summer Games became a project for which Kazan has been preparing for the last 5 years. According to Universiade participants and guests of the capital, the Games were held at the highest organisational level. A large amount of preparatory work - first of all, the preparation of urban, transport, sports and hotel infrastructure - has been carried out in cooperation with federal authorities.

The Universiade in Kazan became the largest in the history of the World University Games and set records in the number of participants (11,778 people), participating countries (160), sports on the programme (27), medal events (351), visitors and tourists (more than 150,000 people.) spectators who attended sporting events (about 800,000), as well as the number of TV viewers of the Universiade (more than 3 bln people).
