13 August 2013, Tuesday
According to latest reports, the Kul Sharif mosque, the only sight from Tatarstan taking part in the Russia 10 competition’s second stage, ranks 17th.

The symbol of Kazan has scored nearly 233.5 thousand votes. The mosque last week was on the 15th line of the rating list. To support the Tatarstan’s sight, one needs to cast a vote on the project’s website (3 a day from one IP address at most) or send a short text message with the text 15 at the 1880 number.

The second stage began on 1 July and will finish on 1 September. Participants are 10 architectural, cultural and landscape assets from each federal district. Based on the voting results, 30 sights will be selected for the final. Ten will become winners and be replicated in miniature in an under construction landscape park Podmoskovie.

The Russia 10 project, organised by the Russian Geographical Society and Rossia 1 TV channel, is designed to identify country’s new visual symbols. The purpose of the project is to support sustained interest in the country as an inbound and international tourist destination, tell about Russia’s unique geographical, architectural and historical sites, and generate in the regions a new wave of ‘geopatriotism’.
