Russian masters swimming championships kick off in Kazan

The Russian Masters Swimming Championships take places in Kazan between April 17 and 19. The format of the tournament is as close to FINA World Masters Championships as possible. The list of entrants includes 777 athletes representing 55 sports clubs. Out of 777 entrants, 110 are residents of the Republic of Tatarstan, 85 are from Kazan, 14 from Almetyevsk, 3 from Yelabuga, and one from each of the following cities: Nizhnekamsk, Leninogorsk and Zelenodolsk. The national championships will be open that's why the lineup of participants also includes international athletes representing Estonia, Czech Republic, Kazakhstan and Austria (8 athletes in total).

The opening ceremony took place in the Aquatics Palace. Present at the event were Deputy Minister of Youth Affairs and Sport of the Republic of Tatarstan, Almaz Mingulov, Director General of the Executive Directorate for Sports Projects, Azat Kadyrov, and President of the Russian Masters Swimming Federation, Alexander Danilov. They extended their greetings to athletes and invited them to participate in the upcoming FINA World Masters Championships. 

It was decided to host the national championships in the Aquatics Palace, which is to become one of the main competition venues for this summer's FINA World Championships and Masters tournament. 50 judges will officiate the competitions, 43 of them are from Kazan, 3 are non-locals. The team of volunteers will include 50 boys and girls who will take up positions in such functional areas as sports programme and protocol. The Athletes’ Village has been designated as the official accommodation for Russian Championships participants. It will accommodate 243 people.
