Almost 60 Tatarstan athletes to be candidates for Russian team in Olympics in Rio de Janeiro

 In Tatarstan, 58 athletes are candidates for participation in the XXXI Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Tatarstan Minister of Youth and Sports Vladimir Leonov said at a press conference in news agency Tatar-Inform.

"There are 58 candidates for participation in the Olympic Games in an expanded team, three more people are candidates for participation in the Paralympic Games," he said.

Thus, a special training program is developed for Tatarstan athletes in individual sports for the Olympic Games. As Leonov emphasized, 28 athletes-candidates for the Olympics and three candidates to the Paralympic Games were included in this program.

The program developed includes additional training activities and recovery fees, pharmacological providing of rehabilitation and treatment measures for athletes, as well as incentive payments to athletes, coaches and specialists.

"Lists are formed on the basis of real opportunities for the participation of athletes in these sports. There are both an extended list of candidates and a local list. These guys have the best chances to win medals," said V. Leonov.

Special preparations will be held in May and December this year and January-August of the next.

Additional funds in amount of 56 million rubles are provideв for the implementation of special training programs. The program was fully supported by acting President of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov.
