Chairman of the Russian Geographical Society’s branch in the Republic of Tatarstan and President of the Federation of Underwater Sports of the Republic of Tatarstan, Dmitry Shiller, was announced today as an Ambassador for the 16th FINA World Championships. The Kazan 2015 Ambassador certificate was handed to him by Farid Abdulganiev, Deputy Director General of the Executive Directorate for Sports Projects.
The ambassador announcement ceremony took place on the sidelines of a farewell event for Dmitry Shiller’s underwater research group that embarked on the Arctic Circle of Russia expedition marking the beginning of the 13 Seas of Russia project. In his new capacity, the President of Tatarstan’s Federation of Underwater Sports will head to the shores of the Barents Sea.
“As a citizen of Russia and Tatarstan, I’m full of pride for all the work done in the lead-up to the FINA World Championships. For me, personally, the Ambassador title is a huge responsibility and a great pride. When I first heard the news, I couldn’t believe it. I thought that one of my friends was playing a prank on me (laughs). My doubts fell away when the Press Officer of Tatarstan’s Federation of Underwater Sports confirmed this information,” the newly appointed Kazan 2015 Ambassador said.
