Capsule with Kazanka river water to descend to Barents sea bottom

1 July 2015, Wednesday

A farewell event was held today for Tatarstan’s underwater research group, as it embarked on the Arctic Circle of Russia expedition marking the beginning of the 13 Seas of Russia project. During this mission, the Tatarstan submariners will take the capsule with water from the Kazanka River, one of the symbols of the upcoming 16th FINA World Championships, to the floor of the Barents Sea.

With this expedition, the underwater research group will initiate a series of missions to all 13 seas of Russia. And the first stage of the project will be dedicated to the 2015 FINA World Championships. Today Deputy Director General of the Executive Directorate for Sports Projects, Farid Abdulganiev, handed the capsule with Kazanka River water to the leader of the expedition and newly appointed Kazan 2015 Ambassador, Dmitry Shiller. According to the plan, the capsule will be taken to the floor of the Barents Sea and return to Kazan by the Opening Ceremony of the FINA World Championships.

“There’s little time left until the 16th FINA World Championships, this summer’s most dramatic event. In 23 days the tournament will throw its doors open to the world. It is expected that the Championships will reach a potential viewship of 4.5 billion people  around the world. The capsule with water from the Kazanka River has already been charged with cosmic energy. And today we are glad to hand it over to our friends from the Arctic Circle of Russia expedition,” said Farid Abdulganiev, Deputy Director General of the Directorate.

It has already been revealed that during the mission the capsule will have its own keeper. This role will be bestowed on a record holder of some kind, a person who took a selfie at the farthest point in the Arctic Region. “The expedition to the Barents Sea is a start of a big project called ’13 Seas of Russia’. Why to the Barents Sea? It is there that most important structures of the Navy and the EMERCOM are located, and our mission entails cooperation with them. We intend to set a record by sending a human being to the deepest point in the Arctic Circle. For that we have teamed up with the logistics expert of the Jacques-Yves Cousteau crew who should register the record and provide the proof to the world that we managed to set this record. The capsule? We will do everything possible to keep it safe and cherish it as the apple of the eye,” said Dmitry Shiller.
